The European Parliament
The European Parliament is the only directly-elected body of the European Union.
The 736 Members of the European Parliament are there to represent the citizen of the European Union. They are elected once every five years by voters right across the 27 Member States of the European Union on behalf of its 500 million citizens.
The "Intergroup on social economy" of the European Parliament is a very important body for dialogue between the members of the European Parliament and all social economy actors (click here for more information).
In February 2009, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on social economy with 580 votes in favour (click here for more information). This text is a key element for the recognition of the social economy and social economy entreprises in the European Union.
On 10th March 2011, the European Parliament adopted a declaration on establishing European statutes for mutual societies, associations and foundations (click here for more information).
